High-Power, Narrow-Linewidth Distributed-Feedback Quantum-Cascade Laser for Molecular Spectroscopy

In 2022 scientific group from the ETH Zurich, Switzerland, and the University of Basel, Switzerland published in Photonics (MDPI) an article where they describe high-power, narrow-linewidth distributed-feedback quantum-cascade laser for molecular spectroscopy.

Quantum-cascade lasers which are semiconductor radiation sources working in the mid-infrared (MIR) are widely used in high-resolution studies as well as in sensing and other applications. Authors used PVI-4TE-5-1×1 VIGO detector in  the experimental setup for characterizing the laser linewidth. They measured the transmittance of the MIR radiation through a gas cell filled with N2O as a function of time of the QCL laser operating near 4.6 µm. The intensity of the radiation transmitted through the cell was measured with a VIGO HgCdTe photodetector which is doing its job very well in such setup.

This article proves the usefulness of VIGO products in performing laser linewidth characterization.
